Webinar Summary

The Pistoia Alliance has a global mission to “lower barriers to innovation in life science R&D & Healthcare.” To support this, the Pistoia Alliance is running the second of its global knowledge-sharing webinars to provide some specific examples of where the pre-competitive collaboration, shared-risk/shared-reward model can benefit life science companies and professionals in Japan.

Some good example activities include implementation of the FAIR Data Principles, Quantum Computing Community of Interest, and Lab of the Future – followed by an elegant example of exploiting RWD and AI to provide patient stratification to optimize the patient experience and healthcare budget.

The webinar will conclude with a panel discussion of Japanese Life Scientists / Technologists addressing what activities the Japan Chapter of the PA should undertake next.

The Lightning Talks are designed to encourage Q&A as is the panel discussion. A principal outcome of this event will be a better understanding of some of the “hot topics” facing the Japanese Life Sciences community and how the Pistoia Alliance community can come together to help address them.

Speaker Biographies

John Bolger

John is the CEO and Founder of Matador Japan KK and in that role also acts as the Japan General Manager for SciBite and CluePoints as well as the Commercial Director for Generis. Through our tight partnership with our overseas partners, Matador enables Japanese pharma to benefit from transformative technologies. Coming to Japan in 1989 and now a long-term resident with deep roots, John and the Matador team are truly bicultural and of course bilingual. With a software development background, John began to focus on the Japanese pharmaceutical industry twenty years ago. Since then, he has provided systems to almost every business function within Japanese pharma. Prior to establishing Matador in 2012, John also led the successful Silicon Valley-based Guidewire Software in Japan for around four years from the very beginning up to the IPO.

Takuji Yamamoto

Joined Fujisawa Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (currently Astellas Pharma) as MR in 2001, in charge of medical practitioners, core hospitals, university hospitals, etc. in Fukushima and Mie prefectures. Since 2017, he has been engaged in MR activity support as an academic staff member of the Nagoya branch. Since 2018, he has been in charge of promoting regional cooperation as the current AMC (Area Marketing Coordinator), building a model of contribution to community health care in collaboration with local governments and other companies as well as healthcare professionals.

Nozomi Hamada

Nagakute City Hall, Insurance and Medical Care Division, Department of Public Welfare
Joined the agency in 1999. After experiencing the Citizens Division and the Personnel Secretary Division, she was assigned to the Health Insurance Division in 2013 and is in charge of the National Health Insurance business. Since 2018, she has been involved in the health business and is in charge of formulating the Data Health Plans. As a leader in the preventing ICD/ CKD project, she was responsible for explaining and coordinating to specialists and the Japan Medical Association.

Ryo Noguchi

Ryo Noguchi is an executive officer at JMDC Inc., the Japan’s leading real world data provider. He worked as a core member of healthcare practice area at the Boston Consulting Group and covered multiple sectors including biopharma, MedTech and providers. After joining the Noritsu Koki Group in 2016, worked as CEO of a genetic testing company and a Bio-venture focusing on regenerative medicine. He joined JMDC in 2020.

Hidemi Suzuki

JMDC Inc., Public Policy Support Group, Social Policy and Industry-University Cooperation
Engaged in clinical trials at Bellsystem24, Inc. at a contract research organization related to new drugs. After launching three dispensing pharmacies, she was in charge of 400 cases a month at a pharmacy specializing in home medical care, and learned terminal home medical care. After that, at Nihon Chouzai Co., Ltd., planning and sales of services for home medical care and public insurers. Enrolled in JMDC from October 2019, in charge of planning services for public insurers.

Kaede Anabuki

JMDC Inc., Manager, Sales division, pharmaceutical business unit. After graduating from university, after working as a software engineer, joined a consulting firm in the healthcare field. She has a lot of experience mainly in management improvement projects of local hospitals. Joined JMDC as a consulting sales position since 2015. She is in charge of domestic and foreign pharmaceutical companies.
